South Harrow - Proposed colourful crossing designs

WeTheSeeds worked with Harrow Council to produce 3 designs and 2 concepts for a proposed colourful crossing in South Harrow.

The brief of the project outlined that the designs needed to reflect South Harrow’s history but also be applicable to be moved to different sites, pending stakeholder agreement.

Some of the submitted designs of the crosswalk needed to work with the proposed design WeTheSeeds had submitted for the flank wall underneath the station bridge.

South Harrow - Proposed colourful crossing designs

The process

To begin the design phase, our team looked over the research of the local area, picking out notable visual references to work with. This was followed by reexamining the submitted wall mural design for the flank wall underneath the bridge owned by Transport for London. We wanted to ensure that our work could follow a house style for the area, rather than the placement of individual pieces of purely aesthetic artwork. Therefore our team stayed conscious of the history of the area, past and present, with aims to create designs and concepts of functional way-finding pieces that reflected the area’s locality, character and people.
