Bloomsbury - Katherine Rundell Window Art Advertising Campaign UK & Ireland

WeTheSeeds (Public Arts Placemaking UK) were asked by Bloomsbury Book Publishers to design and install 6 pieces of Window Art Advertising across the United Kingdom and Ireland for Katherine Rundell’s latest book “Impossible Creatures”.

The process

Pre-launch, our expert window art design team collaborated closely with Bloomsbury Book Publishers to bring the magical world of Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell to life through a public art installation campaign. Using the book’s stunning sleeve illustrations, we reformatted and adapted each sleeve artwork illustration to fit the unique dimensions of 6 UK booksellers’ and Irish bookstores’ window panels. Each design was carefully deconstructed and reimagined to work seamlessly with the creative placemaking goals of the campaign, ensuring maximum visual impact for book launch promotion and local community engagement. Featuring the title Impossible Creatures and Katherine Rundell’s name prominently, our final 6 bespoke digital window designs were presented to the client for approval before installation.

Growing the seeds

With our design team, we created digital pre-paint mockups of each window site to help stakeholders visualize the high street window display pre-install. After the bespoke digital window designs for the Impossible Creatures campaign had been approved, our qualified public art and window painting artists travelled across the United Kingdom and Ireland to bring each design concept to life. At every location, we hand-painted the approved designs directly onto the bookshop windows, following an intensive 8-hour layering process per site. Working closely with each bookseller, we ensured that every stroke reflected the approved window art advertising concept to the highest standard, achieving perfect alignment between the digital vision and the final hand-painted bookshop window mural displays.

The campaign was completed in time for the UK book launch of Katherine Rundell’s Impossible Creatures, with installations at Dulwich Books (6 Croxted Rd, London SE21 8SW), Truman Books (95 Town St, Farsley, Pudsey LS28 5HX), Bookshop by the Blackdowns (2 South St, Wellington TA21 8NS), Red Lion Books (125 High St, Colchester CO1 1SZ), The Book Haven (Roselawn Shopping Centre, Blanchardstown, Dublin, D15 XKT5, Ireland), and Reading Roots Bookshop (Leeds).

5 stars is definitely not enough to describe the excellent service we received from WeTheSeeds! We approached them with a last minute brief and not only were they able to fulfill this at lightning speed, they created an incredible window display that was even better than we had imagined! We had one very happy author and bookshop! Would highly recommend and look forward to working with them on many future projects.
